Saturday:

Tonight I took out my sewing machine to make some ring slings to potentially sell along with my baby wraps. I figured I couldn't do the no-sew slings for sale, as those would be more confusing for the moms. So I made a green one, hemmed the each edge of 2 1/2 yards by 2 foot (which I discovered I need a lot more practice sewing straight seams before I sell anything with what is supposed to be a straight line of thread on it) and went to the bedroom to find the rings that I used to let the kids play with. Now, Liam loves to watch me sew and do things like dig through my sewing basket, put pins in the pin cushion, play with bobbins and buttons, and put them in various containers, and roll around the pattern tracer. I walked back into the kitchen, to what I thought was Liam doing any number of those things....but no.......he had the scissors....and was cutting hole after hole in the sling. Looking back, I feel kinda bad because he enthusiastically exclaimed, "I cutting Mommy!!!!" with a big grin on his face of proud accomplishment. Then my terror, fury, rage came out with, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? YOU CAN'T USE SCISSORS!!! WHY ARE YOU CUTTING HOLES!!! I JUST MADE THAT!!!" And other various remarks of dissatisfaction. I later explained that he couldn't ever use scissors.....ever, ever, ever, ever, ever. And why Mommy was so upset. I told him I couldn't use that sling now, and I was going to carry him in it, and now I have to throw it away. He understood, and not in a way of sorrowful, 'I feel crappy now that I broke Mommy's sling' but of, 'Wow, I shouldn't do that again.'

I did end up making another, and after we all cooled down, Liam got to take a ride in it with Dad. Which he really liked too. Phillip said he liked it more than the wrap (which is hard for me to understand, but to each his own) and he's be more inclined to use it if it was a more masculine color, and with Annabelle. So I made another.
