August 20, 2011

Saturday:

Ruth's parents watched Liam and Annabelle during the day while Ruth was at a baby expo and I worked. When I returned, Liam was talking up a storm, asking for milk, and overall very excited. Ruth's parents stayed for dinner and Liam talked more than he ate. He eats a few bites, then talks until he is ready to get down. It is really pretty funny, but hard to respond to him when I am busy with eating my food.

We prepared the kids for bed. Liam wanted to read the same Curious George story that we read last night: "Curious George Goes to a Costume Party" or a.k.a the "Scary Lady" story. Liam is fascinated with the fact that the scary lady in question answers the door with her witch mask on. He asked over and over if Curious George is scared and I describe the posture of George (hands gripping the pant leg of the man with the yellow hat and mouth wide open). Further in the story, there is an illustration of the scary lady with her back turned to the reader. Liam stops on that page and, in a very concerned way, says, "does she have her mask on?" I reply that there is no way of knowing because she has her back to us and it is a story, and a picture, and we can't tell. He thinks on that for a bit before he agrees, "yeah, we can't tell if she has her mask on." It is really humorous to read stories to Liam these days, he talks almost the entire time. As I am trying to read, he is asking questions about either the current or the next page. I don't really mind, as I certainly don't want to discourage him from asking questions if he isn't sure about something.
