Monday:

Liam said the funniest thing today on the way home. I was at a stop light and it turned green, and since I didn't go the very second it turned, the man behind me honked. "What is that noise?", he asked. Of course, that would be his question. I said, "That was a very rude man honking his horn." "He should be nice and sweet." Liam replied. I agreed. I think that is a lesson all Austin drives should learn. Be nice and sweet.

Sunday:

It was a windy day today so Phillip decided to go in the back yard with Liam and fly his pocket kite while I fed Annabelle in side. Liam had a great deal of fun with this. Then, since we saw what a beautiful day it was, we decided to be spontaneous and go to one of the bigger parks that had soccer fields so he could fly bigger ones. It was quite a lot of fun. Liam had lots of space to run and play. Most of all, I think he enjoyed it when Phillip let him hold the handle of the kite with the string spun around it. He really felt like he was flying. I think most of time though, he was more intent on holding the string than watching the kite fly. After the sun set, we headed home.

Saturday:

BUSY day today! Rayne came over in the morning and we headed out to the Sunset Valley Farmer's Market while Dad stayed home to finish up some work. Liam got to walk the entire time holding Rayne's hand. He got to see all the different produce that was out for the season, but was most interested and longed most for the handmade pasta. I don't blame him, it looked delicious. Especially the ones with butternut squash or bell pepper puree in the dough. Two of Liam's favorite veggies. After that market, we went to the downtown Farmer's Market. Another trip out, and lots of fun. Many dogs to see, music to listen to and people to oooo and aaahhh at Liam's curly hair. We then went to Hobby Lobby and on the way, Liam fell asleep. I felt bad waking him, and he said that he wanted to sleep still, so I told him I'd carry him in the baby wrap, and I wrapped Raybe so she could carry Annabelle, who was also asleep. I think the excitement of being in the wrap again canceled out any opportunity of him sleeping. He hung out there for a while, and then said he wanted to get down. From then on he road in the cart. I think sometimes he sees that Annabelle gets to do things, and he wants to do them too. I don't blame him, if I could be carried around in a snuggly baby wrap, I would. He's a smart kid.

Friday:

During Annabelle's morning nap, Liam and I had some intense reading time in his room. He has a milk crate that holds all of his smaller books, and we read every single one. Not sure how many there were, I'd have to say at least 10. I think Liam's favorite was the 5 Little Pumpkins that he got for Halloween one year. Mine was How do I Love You?. It's a story about a little boy, who looks much like Liam, who does silly things like loose his shoes, wear his pants backwards, and other things that really reminded me of Liam. I do love him so, and I found the book very fitting.

Thursday:

Today it rained! It's been really cloudy and muggy for a while, as to be expected in Austin, and finally the clouds let loose and gave us a nice drizzle. I don't remember the last time it rained during the day, so Liam and I, as Annabelle napped, took the opportunity to open up the windows and let the fresh rain sent fill our house. He loved to see it drip off the eve of the house making a little puddle on the group. I can't wait till they are old enough to go puddle hopping. Hopefully we will get a chance for Liam to try out his rain boots!

As you may see, Liam's shirt is on backwards. That's because today he put his shirt on all by himself with absolutely no help from me! He was so proud that I decided to give him only my praise and encouragement and tell him what a great job he did. We even went to WalMart with his shirt this and I couldn't be more proud!

Wednesday:

The kids and I went to help stuff envelops for an upcoming Texans for Midwifery lobby at the Capital. They weren't much help with the stuffing of course, but got to visit with a couple other 2 year olds, and share toys and snacks. By the time we got home, they were both tuckered out and snoozing in their car seats. Stopping the car, closing doors, honey barking and all didn't even cause them to budge.

Tuesday:

It's funny how Liam makes a 'y' sound when a word ends with a 'd'. Like in 'hood'. He says 'hoo-ey'. I think it's adorable. In building with blocks today he kept referring to them as 'woo-ey boks'. I'm not making fun, but simply enjoying the cute ways he says words. I know he'll grow out of the stage of mispronunciation, and I do find it adorable, so I enjoy it while I can.

Monday:

Today for a little bit Bonny and Violet came over to play and paint. Violet is a big fan of painting and she showed Liam how to paint his hand with a brush and then make a hand print on the paper. He got a lot of joy out of this. Of course, then the other had had to be painted. After a while, it was time to move to the next activity and Liam was quite anxious to get his hands cleaned. He's quite the neat kid. He doesn't like messes, and he is always helpful to clean up promptly. No complaining here.

Sunday:

Liam is really the funniest thing to Annabelle. Not only does he like being crazy and silly, but she thoroughly enjoys it, and he in addition to that, loves to make her laugh. He'll run and dance, than shoot over to her and tickle her and she'll let out a great laugh. We all had fun playing on the floor today, and Dad was nice enough to click a few pictures. He really enjoys having her as a little sister. It's like another person that is little that he can connect with. I asked him if Annabelle was little like him and he said 'yes, Ann-Belle little like you'. Cute.

Saturday:

After a trip to The Home Depot to pick up a ceiling fan for Annabelle's room, the whole family moved to the back of the house to set it up. Liam found this very fascinating. He watched intently as Phillip took parts out of the box. Big parts, little parts, parts he couldn't touch, and parts he got to help put together. When he was out of parts he could touch, we moved to entertaining himself with Dad's flashlight. He turned it on and off, asked if it had batteries, and at one point held it up to the ceiling where Dad was working to give him light. Then, he presented to take it apart. He began screwing off the top lens (like his flashlight disassembles) and that is when we had to set the boundary. Almost every time Phillip stepped down from the step ladder, Liam was climb up it. I think he was a little nervous of the height of it, but got used to it quickly. I'm pretty sure he knew he was up to mischief climbing on it, and that was the reason for much of his hesitation.

Friday:

We painted again today, and Liam has started to kinda scrub the paint into the paper and then, due to that, a hole usually presents itself. Sadly, I don't see this till the paint is dry and requires much elbow grease to get it up.

Later this evening the kids had their first fight with toys. Liam had his blue pull toy, and Dad moved it close to Annabelle so she could see it also. Liam stopped playing with it, except for when Annabelle started to show interest. He took it away from her and covered it up with a blanket. Annabelle started crying at that point, maybe because he took it away, or maybe because he was hiding it. Dad controlled the incident by getting Liam to give her some of her other toys so he could play with his toy. He didn't want Annabelle to play with it, and all he wanted to do was cover it up. After a bit, Liam left the toy for another and Annabelle got the toy uncovered and back for her to play with. I see many more referee opportunities in the future.

Thursday:

Today was the last day with Gigi and Papa. Liam spent the morning coloring with Gigi on pieces of paper on the floor. First time painting, and I think it's going to become a regular activity. When asked if he had fun with Gigi and Papa, Liam answers "Mmm-hmmm". He then mentioned how Gigi played playdoh, and "You played Papa iPod." "He give you big die". I know he can't wait to see them again, and on more than one occasion he's said "We see Gigi Papa again." I always assure him that yes, we will indeed see them again.

Wednesday:

After a long grocery day, fun with Gigi, Mom and Annabelle, and a yummy lunch, Liam was ready for nap. After nap, he has to have some time to wake up on his own. He usually likes a lot of cuddling, and loving. Today he snuggled on the couch with his Dog and BeeBoo, and laid down and rested. We'd bought some snap pea snacks that he then munched on till he woke. It was real cute. I can't blame him, it takes me a while to wake up and God forbid anyone asks anything of me, I usually throw a fit equivalent to a Liam 2 year-old tantrum.

Tuesday:

For lunch today, Gigi, Annabelle, Liam and I strolled over to The Brick Oven. Gigi was so nice to treat us to lunch. This was the first time Liam had walked the path holding hands. He usually rides in the stroller. It was a long walk for a little guy. When we got there, Liam behaved so nicely, and even ate some spinach cheese ravioli. We made a quick stop at Randall's to pick up a few things and then headed home. Liam was wearing his new 'Orange Boy Shoes' which were a little big. That coupled with all the walking, and the yummy lunch, and the fact that it was past 1 really made him especially tired and stumbly. Gigi was nice enough to carry him home. He was so tired that he went straight to nap with out going potty first. In a couple hours, he woke very upset having had an accident in his bed. :( This was the first time he has ever done this and I think it really caught him off guard. I don't think he was ready to wake up, had too pee, and didn't like being woken up in a wet bed. We consoled him to a bath, which he soon cheered up and played and splashed. We washed all the bedding, including Dog and BeeBoo, who Liam was very worried about. I told him they were taking a bath just like he did. It wasn't long till the awaited washer and dryer stopped and they were out ready to play again.

Monday:

Gigi and Papa came back this evening to stay for a few days. Liam was thrilled to see them again. The bond they have together is so sweet. I am glad that Liam and Annabelle have grandparents that light up their world. From playing with the back-pack-suitcases, to rummaging through Papas bag, he enjoys every moment. Later in the evening, Liam found the back scratcher and asked Gigi to give his back a little scratch. Of course, Liam has that way of melting everyone's hearts and having them succumb to his will. I'm sure Gigi didn't mind, and I think Liam found it fun too.

February 13, 2011

Sunday:

This morning Liam woke very early to greet Gigi and Papa. I think he loves to spend every opportunity he can with them. I think this is very sweet...until an hour or so before nap time when Liam the tired grouch came out. We would have put him down for a nap then, but we are really trying to keep their afternoon naps at the same time. So, we waited, and he was quite ready. A long nap was just what he needed. He woke still a little grouchy, but quickly moved past that. It really is true what they say about routine, maybe just with my kids, but I find it quite helpful in keeping the household sanity.

February 12, 2011

Saturday:

This morning was quite the unwelcome surprise. Liam came in and said he had to go potty, so I told him to go. I hear the toilet flush, and then the next thing I know Phillip is scolding him for getting the plunger. As he put it back, Phillip said, 'Do you hear water running?' He thought maybe Liam had turned on one of the faucets in the bathroom. Nope. I wish he had. He had flushed well over the limit of toilet paper down the toilet, and it was over flowing....all over the floor....flooding the floor....lapping at the carpet like water on the beach. Yeah. So as we tried to wrap our head around the incident, we started soaking up the water with towels and wringing them out in the tub. Not the best thing to do first thing in the morning. When Phillip finally made the connection between Liam's quest for the plunger and the 'why' behind it, he felt bad for scolding Liam. We both did. But I think for now, we are going to leave all the toilet paper wiping to Mom and Dad.

Friday:

While doing the dishes today the kids played on the floor in the living room. Liam, has been quite attached to his cowboy hat the past few days, and as I looked over the counter, I noticed he'd decided to share it with Annabelle. I thought it was very nice of him. I think he got a kick out of the hat balancing on her head, even though the hat swallowed her head.

Thursday:

Liam is really liking that Annabelle can sit up on her own pretty well now. I showed him how to sit her back up after she falls, and he likes to help do that too. He usually brings over a plethora of toys and dumps them out in her lap. Today he put the empty red toy bucket on his head, which she found amusing. He likes to see her at eye level I think. It's really cute to watch them play together.

February 9, 2011

Wednesday:

Tonight was the first night that Liam went to bed without any crying, yelling, or getting out of bed. I am so proud of him, and I know he is too. Tomorrow, he will surely get 2 no-cry treats, 1 vitamin, and 1 fish oil, which he calls 'fi-fa olwa'. Cute. The last week or so, he's been really great at going to bed with only getting up once or twice. I'm so glad we are here. I think for now on, it's about keeping up the routine that we are on. Bed at 8, brush teeth, potty, pjs, socks, story, dog, bunny, 1 toy of choice, cover up (with 3 blankets), story, hugs from Dad, hugs from mom, and then lights out. It's worth it for us all to have a peaceful evening.

February 8, 2011

Tuesday:

Today, we got a package from Gigi and Papa. In it were new clothes for both the kids. In particular, Liam fell in love with a long-sleeve, red airplane shirt. He put it on right away, and then went to grab his matching cowboy hat. He does have style! And he is quite thankful for the new wardrobe additions. He was sure to tell Gigi "Thank you Gigi" on the phone when we called her.

February 7, 2011

Monday:

Liam has learned to put his shirt on all by himself. At first, it was quite a fight, as I don't think he likes to learn to do things that are new. Once he figured it out, he was quite proud of himself. Now, he does it every time he gets dressed. The only thing he hasn't quite mastered is snapping his pants. That will come with time, and I'm sure is very tricky for little 2-year-old hands.

He's had a little bit of a cough the past few days so we've been giving him some homeopathic cough medicine, also echinacea. I think he's the only kid who knows and asks for echinacea. He's also the only 2-year-old who knows what wheatgrass, quinoa, spiralina, and echinacea are. He would be are kid.

Sunday:

Today Phillip and I decided we'd play a few game throughout the day. We had an extra deck of Phase 10 cards that Liam found lot's of joy playing with. Also the Mancala game with their many marbles was a big bit. Then, when you combine the box of the Mancala and the Phase 10 cards together, he was in for a real treat. Later, he brought out his farm set and then he was in two-year-old heaven! His first introduction to Phase 10, and I think he's hooked.

January 5, 2011

Saturday:

Liam and Annabelle both went with me to the ICAN meeting. There were a few other little boys there that he could play with. Liam had fun sharing his coloring book and crayons with the other kids for a nice trad off form trucks and cars.

In the evening, we headed over Rayne and Daniel's house to help them with some painting. Liam was very excited to play with a whole bowl of dice that Daniel had. He had fun stacking them, counting them, sorting them, dumping them out and picking them up. There were two very tiny dice, no more than a centimeter wide, that I think Liam was nervous to play with. He left those in the bowl while he played with the others.

Friday:

This morning, Liam woke up and saw the snow outside and said "Uh-Oh! What is that?". I asked him what it was and he said, "Rain". "No", I replied. "It Snow!" he said. He was very excited and after seeing Honey go outside he very much so decided he wanted to join her. So we got him all bundled, and then headed out. He and Phillip threw a few snowballs, which proved quite hard for Liam given the gloves he had on, then we moved to the front yard to build a snowman. Again, quite hard for Liam, so he went to eating the snow off his gloves. "Snow really good!". We told him not to eat it anymore since most of it was off Phillip's car, and the cleanliness of it was quite questionable. After a little while, we moved inside where it was much warmer, as we were all quite cold.

January 3, 2011

Thursday:

Pretty typical Thursday around here, I made formula in the morning then laundry in the afternoon. While I was making formula, Liam pulled his table over by the kitchen and played with his play doh. I told him it was almost lunch time, and he then presented me with a play doh lunch. I asked him what it was and he said "PBJ". I told him it was quite yummy! He's very imaginative.

In the evening, after the laundry was all washed and dried, it was time to put it away. This is Liam's favorite part of laundry day. He loves to help carry the piles of laundry from the living room back to the bedrooms and put them in the drawers. I think it's great, and a great habit for him to get into.

Wednesday:

At the grocery store today, Liam won an "Instant Winner" sticker with one of his Buddy Bucks. So, we went over to the customer service desk and got a prize. They had a kids bowl, fork and spoon set, a bracelet, or a puzzle. Of course, Liam chose the puzzle. So tonight, he and Phillip (mainly Phillip) put it together. At first, he was pulling off all the puzzle piece heads and throwing them away. I think he thought they were tag. Then we explained that they are used to hold two pieces together and I think he got the drift. Finally it was done, just in time before 'the clock points up up' (8:00) and bed time came.

February 1, 2011

Tuesday:

Today we had Play Group. All together, there were four 2-year-olds, and two babies. Lots of kiddos! Liam had a lot of fun playing with all the kids. I think between the three of us moms in the neighborhood, one of us will be hosting the group once a month. Liam loves it, and it's usually all the same kiddos there.

After nap, Violet came over while her mommy ran some errands, and Liam had much fun with that. I think she's his favorite friend. They really do play well together. She came over while he was still napping and I think once he heard her, he got up pretty quick. They played with Play Doh, the all the other toys, had snack, and then when Liam climbed in Annabelle's basket bed in the living room, Violet decided that he needed a pillow and even tucked him in with her favorite blanket that she rarely shares. They really are cute together.
